Tones and Colours and Stuff

I was working at my little table today and there were quite a few things in front of me as usual, but I started seeing some nice tones, textures and colours matching together quite nicely, so I put them together and photographed them to use in my design work and thought the photos looked quite nice...so, here they are.

Buttons

I made a whole bunch of button earrings yesterday for the Studio Sale tomorrow and guess what?! I've nearly run out of buttons! So, I'm putting out the word. I need buttons. Please help! If you give me a nice full jar of buttons I'll make you a pair of button earrings in return :) Let me know if you have some stray buttons lying around! Contact me at lulafowler@gmail.com
Thanks!

End of Summer Sale

Ah, the end of Summer has finally arrived...or so they say. Anyway, it's time for sales! Yay!
So, in celebration of this ending, we will be having a little sale at Stef and Jess' studio in Woodstock tomorrow (Wedneday)! It's also gonna double up as Stef and Jess' studio warming party. Marietjie from Skermunkil blogged about it too...she has more pictures in hers. Pop in for a glass of wine and to buy some rad gifts. I'll be there selling my bots and pieces AND I'll be having a bargain box, oooh exciting! Cash only please.

Visiting The Fringe

I went to the gallery at City Hall last week and saw so much cool stuff!!

1: Reflection of shop in tennis racket mirror
2: A clock made from an old scale
3: Felt button brooches handmade by me!
4: Rotisserie 360 serving food next to the gallery
5: Chair made from a suitcase by Recreate
6: Designer t-shirts by Mingo Lambertini
7: Leather earrings by Sharon B Designs
8: The cutest little cuckoo clock pendant by Skermunkil

Mini Porties

I made 2 little jpgs of my illustration work and my craft work!
Hurrah!
P.S Did you know that you can hire me as an illustrator/graphic designer/web designer as well as purchase my craft as gifts for friends/lovers/parents/random strangers ?

Rad Packaging by Lily's Kitchen

I came across this beautifully illustrated packaging from Lily's Kitchen via the Twig and Thistle blog. I love the colours and the simplicity of the line work. I wish I could get this food for my cats! They'd have shiny coats and run around my garden with halos around their little fury heads to the soundtrack of angels singing "aaaaaah". But they will eat Science Diet until then...

Friends

I have blog favourites, some of these people I hang out with, some I've never met...some I've never even spoken to.

Tyred

I recently painted a chair for Tyred for the Design Indaba. It's now on show at the Spier Fringe Arts shop at the City Hall! Go have a look and maybe sit on it a bit and contemplate life :)

French Horns

I've always been fond of the french horn, I think it's all those twirly bits... I'm not a fan of any other brass instruments or their sounds but French Horns look cool and sound rad. They also have a cool name unlike "tuba" or "trombone". I did a painting on one not too long ago and now I've made a vector illustration of them.

The Fringe Arts

I have given over all my stock to the Spier Contemporary shop "The Fringe Arts". They're operating out of City Hall and it look fantastic!
In the pics, I can spy Skinny La Minx, Skermunkil, Cupcake Couture, to name a few.
You can see my button earrings on the wall hanging inside a picture frame :)

Open from 14 March - 14 May 2010
Cape Town City Hall
10am - 6pm
Free admission

First Aid Kit

I came across this duo doing a Fleet Foxes cover and I watched this video of theirs and I adore it. This is First Aid Kit. I love their band name..makes me think of plasters and red plastic scissors.
Check out their Myspace here.

Spot The Difference

I've moved into the main bedroom in my house and I've taken some panoramic pictures to document the transition.

Pic 1: Chaos. I hung the curtains and took bits and pieces up from my room downstairs.

Pic 2: Got my dad and brother round to switch the beds around for me. Moved up almost everything from the downstairs room.

Pic 3: Hung up my mirror, organised work space and a "cutting table", a bedside table, and all my clothes which are behind me in the shot. The little space on the right is being saved for a special project I'm doing, more on that later.

yay!

A Day in the Life of Lauren!

So! Last week was "Day in the Life of..." or Blogger Friday, whatever you call it, Beatnik Bazaar tagged me and this is what I got up to!

It started with a coffee with Thaya, I forgot to take a picture of my beautiful foam art coffee, so alas, this is a pic of the aftermath.

I bought a bottle of wine for our friend's birthday (which we didn't get round to going to) and I went to Fish Hoek to use the sticky internet cafe to download some files for work. On my way there, I saw this lady on her balcony scowling at the traffic and pedestrians, I liked it.

I worked on my friend's website for a bit and then had a look at my diary to see what else was on the day's agenda.

I took a break and wrote my best friend a letter on this rad paper my friend brought back for me from Japan. That was fun, I like writing letters.

Next, I did a bit of knitting whilst waiting for Thaya to pick me up. Went to Thaya's house and finished up some work (too many things open as usual)

Then there was tea, lunch/dinner thing that Thaya made us and a last check in the diary to see if I haven't forgotten anything too important.

I had some trouble with my power cable and had to sit next to the power point and hold the plug whilst copying my files to my flash drive..

I didn't take any pics of the rest of the night cause my flash on my phone camera is blinding and they often just come out gross, but here's a pic that Thaya took of me and some friends at Rick's, where we went for dinner :)

Check out Thaya's day here and Marietjie's day here!

Blogger Friday

My friend Thaya from Beatnik Bazaar has asked all her blogger friends to document their Fridays. Mine hasn't been terribly interesting so far and I forgot to photograph my beautiful coffee this morning!!
Anyway, will post the whole story on Monday :)

Something

This is something that I've been working on for something that's gonna happen...vague, huh!!

Gas Rings

I finally got my gas rings! Hurrah for not getting electrocuted by the old electric stove anymore! However, I am PETRIFIED by the "woomf" noise when I light my stove...I fear for my precious hands, so I've created this little utensil to help me light it safely and to relieve anxiety..

Apricot

A short film by Ben Briand.
I saw this on Miss Moss' blog and it is so beautiful. The imagery, the story, the fashion, the actors, the music! Oh the music is stunning....

Take a break and watch this short little film, HERE.

Folklore

Last week, (week of hectiness for all) I played stylist for Thaya from Beatnik Bazaar, her new lable Folklore is to die for and I couldn't let this oppurtunity pass me by!

We went into Tokai forest, there's lots of nature there, I had to chase babboons away from our stuff. Anyway, the result was Samantha and Shannyn modelling the beautiful dresses, me showing off my styling skills and Thaya's awesome photography! Woohoo! Go team!
