Serenade Your Walls

I designed a poster for this event.
It's being shown at the Am I Collective Garage off of Kloof St (behind Tong Lok) on Sunday 1st August from 1 till 4.

What it says on the 10 and 5 blog about it:
The 10and5 Poster Project 2010 is the first of our annual initiative of South African designers and artists designing posters guided by one collective theme. This year’s exhibition is called Serenade your Walls, and is a collection of posters designed for 14 local bands.

The project aims to showcase South Africa’s finest local design talent, whilst simultaneously celebrating this country’s lively music scene.

Serenade your Walls features one guest artist from Argentina and 12 local creatives, who will be showing their A1 band posters at the AM I Collective studios in Cape Town on 1st August and Wolves in Johannesburg on 4th August, respectively.

Stuff and Things

I did this doodle in my diary yesterday during a meeting, I haven't drawn in a while. It felt nice.

I sent a bit of time on my room this week, throwing out old things, moving things around etc.
I put my new Skinny cushions on my bed and bough some beautiful proteas, I'm also in the process of getting the working area of my room to make more sense, more on that later.

I've found more embroidery hoops! Therefore I can now take more orders for cross stitch wall hangings. I've put a pen in the pics so you can get an idea of how big the 4 and 5 inch hoops are.

Fashion Mood Boards

I'm giving Gene and I a make over.
I came across these gorgeous clothes which are plain, tailored and stylish. So I made moodboards to keep an eye out for stuff that's similar.
All images are from Need Supply Co

First Prototype For Scarflett Stands

I wanted to make a stand for my Scarfletts because people often pick them up and ask what they are. This was my first attempt, they need to be bigger though and also not touch the bottom.
I will have to make them on A3 rather than A4.

A Gift

My friend Abbey brought me back some beautiful fabric back from Kenya!
She's so nice.

Grr. Chirp. Mow.

I printed these out, chucked them in some frames and put them at the Biscuit Mill under The Summit's stand.
Cause that's how I roll.
Go get one, they're printed on some fancy paper that cost me many moneys.

New Alphabet

I came across this beautiful alphabet for crochet in one of my granny's old magazines.
I'm using them to do a series of letter designs.
M is for Mommy.
M is for Mine.
M is for Mmm tasty....

Machineri

Machineri - "Machine I Am" Music Video from Robin Kress on Vimeo.

I came across 2 Machineri videos on We Are Awesome's blog today. I've seen Machineri before but the sound was really bad which made all the songs sound like they all just got washed up together.

On watching these videos and having another listen, I really like their sound. Hopefully the Assembly will do a better job this Saturday. It's terrible when something like the deaf sound guy messes up your vibe.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this video for "Machine I Am" it feels like a whole bunch of still photographs being brought to life. Some real beautiful shots in there and Sannie has a way with expressions that always make you think about what she may be thinking about. I think it's those rad eyebrows.

Miss Texas 1977

Miss Texas played at the waiting room last night and it was beautiful.
I painted a little sign for their kick drum. Cause I'm nice like that.
They have a new website.
It's real cool. It has a picture of a flattened box on it. Find another band that does that.
Listen to them here

Rodger's Fruiters

.
I went for a drive for some "me time" on Sunday as I've been super busy with all kinds of client work and just wanted a time out. I went through to Noordhoek village and looked at all the tourist shops and the Foodbarn and then thought I wanted something a bit more real.

So I drove off to Kommetjie and visited Rodger's Fuiters. I usually buy their product at the Earth Fair in Tokai but I've never been to their actual shop.

They have lucky R5 bags for sale, lovely fresh fruit and veggies for good prices, no pesticides, no packaging. They also have cute little facts on the wall as well as some little affirmations. Love it. I bought a mass of things including some gorgeous local honey, stone ground flour, free range dairy and lots of fresh veggies.

When I got home, I got really inspired and made a gorgeous salad!

R250 Sale at A Word Of Art

I've taken my cross stitch pieces to A Word Of Art to be sold at the R250 show on Saturday.

The Bin was a legendary Cape Town gallery and lifestyle store. This show pays homage to this pioneer of Cape Town urban and low-brow movement. Celebrating established artists and introducing emerging artists. Curated by Blaise Janichon ,Pierre Coetzee and Ricky Lee Gordon. As many artists as possible contribute to this one night only "Reggies Rush" style show. The artwork is sold at the affordable price of R250, on a first come first served basis.

The show starts at 6pm on Saturday at the Word Of Art studios situated at 66-68 Albert Road, Woodstock.
See you there!

Cross Stitch Madness

Made a wall hanging for my agent My Friend Ned. They loved it.
I also made a new wall hanging...in general.
AND I'm now taking orders for Cross Stitch Initial Necklaces!
Just did a "J" for a client.

Joburg Child Welfare Door

I painted this door for Joburg Child Welfare.
I made an animated gif of pics I took as I progressed...but it doesn't seem to work.
Oh well, just look at this plain layout of them then
